Hello

I wasn't sure what section to post this so I just chose the Windows 7 forum. Recently, I installed Windows 7 on an SSD and dual booted it with Windows 8.1. It worked fine until I decided to reset my HDD to factory settings. After I had reset my HDD, I wasn't able to use any keyboard or mouse when I booted into Windows 7. It doesn't automatically update the drivers either, so I'm unable to do anything while I'm booted into Windows 7 (which is really frustrating). I tried to install drivers while booted in Windows 8.1, but I'm unable to since it kept giving me this error - Your PC does not meet the requirements.

The only thing I can think of is if I also reinstall Windows 7 on my SSD, but I'm trying to figure out if there's another way for now. I tried using google to see if anyone had the same problem as me, but none of them really did. There were some topics with similar problems, but the solution didn't seem like it would benefit me much. Also, I'm not very tech-savvy (seriously, it took me all day just to get this dual boot thing to work). I'd appreciate it if any of you can offer any help or suggestions.

Thanks in advance

Hello... you can download any install/version of WINDOWS 7 and you make a bootable USB stick using the ISO and Microsoft USB/DVD utility... A RECOVERY DISK is ONLY used and made, after a successful Windows install for EMERGENCY USE ONLY...
Here is a good procedure... http://www.pcworld.com/article/248995/how_to_install_windows_7_without_the_disc.html
here is another one...http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/f/download-windows-7.htm
USB Procedure... http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/a/install-windows-7-usb.htm

Here is where you are confused... YOU install your OS from the BIO's screen " Please insert Bootable Media " you NEVER install WINDOWS from WINDOWS? ok? understand?
And make sure you first remove all Partitons/Data on it...
Hello... Home made recovery? Factory recovery? what version of Windows? 32/64? and why did you Do it?
The best way to dual boot a system OS is to install them on seperate HD's and un-connected during install, the Windows versions and HD's should not see each other during install... and you will get it to work.
And why do you need to have Both installed on the same Computer?

The recovery disk came with my PC and I have 64-bit on both OS'. I had a lot of space used up on my HDD and someone told me that I'd have to reinstall everything if I made the SSD my primary, so I just decided to reset it. I didn't really need to have both OS'. I prefer to just have Windows 7, but the only way to reset my HDD to factory (or the way I found the easiest) was just to reinstall the OS.

Hello... So you have Windows 8 64 with a Factory recovery/install Disk? and what about your Windows 7 64 version model? Disk? key? is their something/program on your Windows 8 recovery Disk that you cant get/use/live without? from your Windows 7 install?
The main difference will be finding the right drivers for your hardware for the Windows 7 install only, your Windows 8 Recovery disk will have them already for you... Windows 8 drivers and Windows 7 drivers are not happy together... but most all Windows 7 drivers, you need, can be found on-line if you are so inclined/experienced to get them first before trying just a WINDOWS 7 install.

I have Windows 7 Professional, but I don't have it on a CD. A friend gave me a free copy through Dreamspark, so I have a legitimate key for it. I installed Windows 7 via USB.
--------------------------------------
So would that mean I have to make a home made Win7 recovery disk/USB?

Like i said you can not have both Windows7 & 8 working/installed from the same Hardrive.
So do a fresh clean re-install of Windows 7 with only one drive connected... and get all your hardware drivers loaded and happy for your hardware first, if that is the System you want.

Alright thanks. Also, this may sound stupid but how am I able to reinstall Win7? If I disconnect my HDD (I assume I just unplug it from my motherboard) I won't be able to use my keyboard and mouse. Or can I just reinstall it from my USB while booted into Win8.1?
