Hello,

I have decided that I would like to upgrade the amount of ram I have. At the moment I am using a Gigabyte Z77-D3H mother board and 8gb (2x 4gb) 1600Mhz Vengeance LP DDR3 Ram, I want to upgrade to 16gb of the same type, ideally.
So would I be able to just throw another 2x 4gb sticks in there and use quad channeling on my motherboard or would I have to buy 2x 8gb sticks?

Also, what would be better for gaming and video editing, 2x 8gb or 4x 4gb? Which one is more effective and faster?

Thanks! :)

Z77 only supports dual channel. If you want to go quad channel, buy a LGA 2011 and get a quad channel memory kit.

I would buy a 8GBx2 instead of a 4gbx4 because it will do less stress to the memory controller.

I was mistaken, yeah since z77 only supports dual channel then go ahead with 2x8.

Either would be same you won't notice the difference between 4x4 or 2x8, but with 4x4 you'll cannot upgrade in a future so 2x8 would be better it will also run at dual channel mode! :)

I wouldn't recommend you 1600Mhz RAM with CL10 get 1866 with CL9 it would be slightly faster!

Was going to say that these are great; I personally have the same RAM sticks!
