I am looking to buy 3 monitors for an eyefinity display to use for movies, gaming and video editing.

I am looking into compatible monitors that have DVI and Display Ports as well as HDMI if possible.

To run 3 monitors will I need 2 graphic cards?

Also, I planned on using a AX760i PSU but with two graphics cards, will I need to increase the PSU?

Do I need to check if my mobo or GPU can support three monitors? If so, what should I look for in specs online?

Thank you.

Yes I think the r9 290x would be best since the 780Ti has less memory and the Titan black is expensive and has no retail cooler...

So, I will need (2) graphics cards running 4GB to run a 3 monitor set up?

I am not sure if I want to go with Nvidia or AMD yet honestly. I have used both for single monitor in the past and both performed great. I heard it is easier to do a multi-monitor with AMD eyefinity but that was a while ago and I know Nvidia has great support.

A single card will do. I would recommend either a r9 290x or a GTX Titan Black. The 780Ti only has 3 gb of memory so that might not work, whcih is why I wouldn't recommend it.

Hello... ( 1 ) GRAPHIC CARD WITH 4G ram will run 3 monitors!!! 1080P on 3 monitors !!!
If you have a onboard MB/CPU with graphics you can run a fourth at 1080P, but lower performance/non gaming APPS... general internet surfing and document display/editing.

Alright, that gives me a lot to think about, thank you.

Was I correct in saying that all monitors need to have a DVI and Display Port?

If Nvidia needs DVI-D splitter cables, doesn't that take away from the quality?

Does AMD need any type of adapters?

Hello... No quality issues at all... IF all the signals are digital, do not use any VGA ports or adaptors for your monitors or graphic cards... the HDMI connector has the same Digital signals, BUT addes 8 Digital audio signals in the connector... SO HDMI/DVI adaptors are OK to use.
AND Yes... check a per product HOOK-UP diagram for your needs... Not all Brands/models will offer/enable the 3 Monitor option... make sure the Card Does and what is needed to Get it working... "How Do I Connect It?" " "Which Connectors Do I Use?"

The DVI-D splitter cable is a Common part used for workstation video cards for Many years... it just an extra $$ Part needed too order and have on hand when it's time to hook all the toys up...
Basically you would have THREE DVI outputs/connectors from the Card now, instead of the TWO physically on the card... and you would connect them to three Monitors with DVI INPUT connectors... using three DVI cables.

I am sure this has been a debate among many people, but, who would you use for a multi-monitor display, AMD or Nvidia?

My personal needs are:
- Need to be as quiet as possible
- Need to run 3 monitors eventually with 1 card
- Good driver updates and support

My future build minus a few parts to give you an idea of what I am putting together:

Case: Corsairs 650D
CPU/Processor: Intel Core i7-4770K (socket 1150)
MOBO:
RAM:
Graphics: r9 290x?
PSU: Corsair AX760i
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
HDD: 1TB Internal
Cooling: Corsair H100i (Black COUGAR CF-V12HB Vortex Hydro-Dynamic-Bearing 120MM Silent Cooling Fans)
Monitor(s): x3
OS: Windows 8

There's nothing wrong with the r9 290x, just get something like a gigabyte windforce or msi gaming edition so it'll stay cool and quiet. Of course water cooling will get you more performance but you'd have to build a custom loop so I wouldn't really recommend it. Even so the Titan Black is the best card you can get but it'll cost you much more and there are no versions with retail cooling so that's a setback with the noise and heat.

So, you think the easiest way would be to go with the r9 290x instead of any nvidia card? I do see there is a pretty good price break which can be used toward something else, like a monitor or a better mobo.

Its hard because I like the Nvidia interface and support/drivers but AMD never did anything wrong, just nothing, popped out at me like WOW that is useful or cool. I haven't played with their interface for 2 years (I am sure it changed) though or their new cards.

Once I decide on a graphics card I can look at a mobo to complete everything. I do so much research I become indecisive on some things..

Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it.

I will look into the brands that support the r9 290x. I have read some reviews and it seems MSI might have a bad batch due to the amount of returns. Asus is on back order.
