Hey, I bought new processor and motherboard recently and just realized in these cases fresh install of OS would be ideal. I don't want to reinstall since work that still is on my hard drive.

Anyway around this? Somehow to get in, and wipe old drivers and get new ones?
Safe mode boots, but my keyboard nor mouse wont work, and it requires at least mouse to point and click to operate.

Microsoft Sidewinder x4 as keyboard and Logitech mx518 as mouse.
It seems like they wont "start"/"get electricity" when in safe mode. While in bios they work fine.

I had the same issue. What I ended up doing was getting a hold of a copy of windows and installed the new windows over my old install. It moves all of your old files into a folder named "windows.old" and you can get the files you want out of there.

You can't do windows repair to fix the issue. The problem is that windows is still trying to boot the drivers form your old motherboard. When you attempt to repair it, windows still loads the old drivers. You need to install windows again, over your old install. But DO NOT format your hard drive when you install windows.

Having hard time to get to safe mode, any of the f-keys don't seem to work. Looks hopeless, but im going to try to get to safe mode and check what I can do with my drivers there, before giving up.

Found my disc, but now there's "cannot boot from cd - code 5"

This upgrade is driving me mad, help is appreciated. :??:

Edit: So to explain my problem:

1. Bought new motherboard and proceccor.
2. Os don't start no more, it crashes at windows logo. I guess it's the old drivers.
3. When I try to reinstall or do a repair install, I get "cannot boot from cd - code 5".

I also can't get into safe mode. This seems kinda dead end, do I really have to rip off my new parts from case, and put old ones back on, and wipe my hdd, and then try again?

What if I would not have those old parts.......

Anyways, please help me if you can.

Well, finished ripping new stuff off/putting back old/formatting/putting new back in, and code 5 still greets me at boot.
And yes I rapidly hitted F8 before windows logo.

Now after formatting, I only get after bios message:

CDBOOT: Cannot boot from CD - Code: 5

Reboot and select proper boot device
or insert boot media in selected boot media device and press a key

Pressing a key just copys this stuff allover again. starting to get pissed.

1) Have you Googled "CDBOOT: Cannot boot from CD - Code: 5" to search for help on the error?
2) What do you mean you formatted? Are you trying to clean install Win7 to the drive now?
3) Is your HDD set as the first boot device, or is the optical drive?

1) I really have.

2) Yes, clean install, with no os or files left behind. I did "basic" formatting, by putting disc in while running on old cpu/mb, and going through to custom install, and formatting both, os and other partitions.

3) I have tried both, HDD and optical drive.

You realize don't you that re-formatting is unnecessary once the drive has been initially formatted? Win7 will do a quick format when it installs itself. If you have your new parts installed now, try disconnecting the data cable from the optical drive. Be sure no drive other than the HDD shows up in BIOS. (Apparently you can access BIOS with the DEL key)... not sure why you weren't able to access safe mode when you still had a Win7 installation on the disk.

Now when you boot, you should now go straight to the empty HDD and get the normal error message about no boot media. Let's see if all is normal up to that point.

I unplugged optical drive, and now I get only:

Reboot and select proper boot device
or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key

Pressing a key copies the text.
Only HDD showing in boot order.

OK. That's normal with no boot sector on the clean HDD. Now plug the optical drive back in and boot to BIOS. Leave it as the 2nd boot device; let the HDD stay the 1st boot device. Save BIOS and exit. Put your Win7 disk in the optical drive and re-boot. Tap whichever F-key your MB assigns for selecting the boot order manually. Usually F12, but it could be a different one depending on the MB BIOS. You should be presented with a selection of available boot devices. Choose the optical drive and let's see what happens.

Mm'kay, I left Optical as 2nd and HDD as 1st, and still code 5. :(

A little side note here, while looking for solution from the net, I came across this fellow who said that he had solved this by using
Smart boot manager, this hasn't worked for me at least yet, because of one error message it gives me (0x01) but thats another story if someone doesn't happen to be familiar with sbm.

My point is that I got smart boot manager installed to my HDD, booting normally from there, probably useless point but i'm desperate.

Update: It just came to my mind: could updating Bios solve anything? Asus also offers some drivers on their website.

My motherboard is: Asus A88xm-Plus
