ok guys iv got an AMD card in my pc and have bought a monitor that supports 3D vision.

I have an Nvidia GTX 260 also , could i put that in the mobo and not connect up the PCI-E ports so that i could just plug it in if i wanted to watch a 3d film?

or would there be driver conflicts?

just an idea as i cant afford to change gpu atm

currently using an r9 270 x

to clarify only 1 plugged in pci e and being used but both plugged into the mobo slot

You can run with both of them installed, just plug your display into the one you want to use as your primary.

A lot of people with AMD cards will do this so that the nVidia card exclusively runs PhysX while the AMD is charge of all the rendering, etc.

I only have a 650w 80 plus PSU . running i5 2670k on Asus z87pro . the second card is a geforce gtx 260 I think and my primary is a 4gb sapphire r9 270 x . would it be okay to power both at once? I'm OK to only power the r9 and swap it as it would only be used for 3d movies . cheera for the help guys

Hello... a Video card only uses High Power when asked too... the idle watts will allow you to have both cards Installed/Powered and available to Windows... You can Enable and Disable any device you Don't want to use in your DEVICE MANAGER, before you want to use it... Just change your Primary in Windows "Screen resolution"and have them both set to "CLONE" Mode, and disable the other card, In the device manager... Your MB and PCie slot will determine which Card BOOTS the BIO's Display... You might also want to get a VIDEO switching Box when using One Monitor.

OK thankyou for the help. I'll need to look but not sure if I have enough PCI e cables so could I use a converter for the 260x (it will never play games just films) also I think my monitor supports 3d vision 2 . can my 260x do this and is it the same kit I buy for 1 and 2 anyway? Don't want to buy the wrong thing!

Thanks so much for all your help guys!

Hello... You have me confused, with your "PCI e cables" and "Converter" Words/slang... Tell me exactly what you want to set up? and Why? for the best advice at this time. before spending and $$$.
You must have a MB with at least 2 PCIE Slots... do you have that now?

Yeah I have 3 slots on the mobo but PSU doesn't have spare PCI e as there are only 2x 6pin PCI e . I have spare molex supplies and saw you can get molex to PCI e converters. Would this be safe just for watching films? If its not safe I can just take them out the r9 and place in the gtx. If I like the 3d vision I will probably sell the r9 and upgrade to an nvida GPU next

Hello... Yes... The Molex to 6 pin adaptors will be fine... Do you know there are Three Power/GPU/ Program speeds, programed into a Video card... You can watch them turn and off by using a program such as GPU-Z, or MSI afterburner idle/2D/3D settings.
I think this is a great project for you and your Video Cards, and also 3D Monitor Performance testing.
