Hey. I had secured wireless for 5 years now. Today I noticed my wireless became unsecured (no password, what so ever). I tried to connect to 192.168.1.1 but password was refused. I reset my wireless router and set new passwords.

HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN ANYWAY?
I use Linksys WRT54GL

Several ways:

1. Anyone with access inside your network (son, daughter, co-worker, etc...) that had the router's admin password.
2. RE: #1 - an easily guessed (or no) admin password on the router.
3. Using weak encryption (WEP64, WEP128) which is easily cracked.
4. Using strong encryption (WPA, WPA2) but using an easily guessed passphrase.
5. Not disabling WPS (if the router is so equipped)
6. Not disabling remote admin via the WAN port.
7. Malware installed on one or more client machines in your network reporting usernames/passwords to nefarious types.

And that's just the short list.
