how to place motherboard standoff screws

I'm building my first pc and when reading the instructions its telling me to install the standoff screws that came with the case. There is 9 holes that line up between both the atx motherboard and the case and there is 3 smaller holes (2 in the middle close to each other and one that is by itself near the rear fan), these don't line up with the motherboard, is that where I would need to place these stand offs? Also should I install the cpu before or after when trying to place the motherboard into the case.

only use the ones that match your mobo. Most Cases support more than one size mobo (atx and micro atx) so that is the extra holes.

does the motherboard sit on the stand off screw or do i put the screw through it?

you hold them with a screw. depending on the case and mobo some times they come with small rubber or paper washers that go on top of the mobo under the screw. there are plenty of videos on you tube if you get stuck.

these are white plastic standoffs with a flat circular surface abotu the size of a dime/penny that pegs into something. I finally found a youtube vid that helped. put the gold screws into the case and then use the black screws to screw into those.

those plastic ones are confusing me though.
