I have been having serious connection issues the past couple of weeks with my wireless Internet. It had worked great the prior 2 years until recently.
The problem seems to be mainly in the evening hours. I live in a condo complex so I don't know if I have a new neighbor whose wireless use is the issue. I have noticed a new wireless network connection named 'Unnamed Network' in the Windows "Connect to a network" dialog.
When I get a connection it is quite slower than before. Also, if I disconnect then reconnecting is very difficult. I was unable to connect at all last evening from 6-12. Yet my network SSID still shows up with all 5 bars lit green. When I click "Diagnose the Problem" Windows says:
"Wireless association failed because Windows did not receive any response from the wireless router or access point".
I have tried changing the wireless channel in my router settings to 1, 6, and 11 with no luck. It was originally set to "Auto" which I am assuming searches for the best available channel. Rebooting the computer doesn't help. Rebooting the modem seemed to help a little at first but lately has been ineffectual.
I have a D-Link wireless USB adapter and SMC router from Shaw.
Do I need a new wireless access point or is it something else? Any ideas are much appreciated.
Thanks!
