Hi there,

I don't mean to rush you but I need an answer as quickly as humanly possible.

I know this question has been asked many times before, but I need a direct answer for my specific problem. So, I have Windows 7 Ultimate (x64 OEM) and I have a (dead socket) FM1 A6 3670k I was planning within the week after extensive research and pricing to spend £120 on an i3 3240 with a new budget B75 chipset Mobo. (MSI B75MA-P45) however I over-looked that changing mother board would also lose my windows, so I have two questions.

Since my liscece is OEM can I reinstall it?

And secondly will I have to reinstall it, seeing isn't windows saved onto the harddrive?

Thankyou for your responces.

Solution
You will have to re-install Windows depending on how your key is listed with Microsoft phone activation may work or you will have to get a new key if it doesn't.

Thankyou, will I lose the windows or not?

In all likely hood yes can't promise either way sometimes the hard drives boot up just fine in a new system sometimes they don't .

Your copy of Windows is locked to the PC on which you purchased it. You cannot transfer that license to another PC.
You can upgrade any components or peripherals on your PC and keep your license intact. You can replace the motherboard with an identical model or an equivalent model from the OEM if it fails. However, if you personally replace or upgrade the motherboard, your OEM Windows license is null and void.

Thankyou for your responces and I've sorted a solution, I will do a clean install with my retail home premium I had before. It will be a shame to lose ultimate as I did use XP mode, however i'm not losing out big time by using home premium. Thankyou again.
