Today i bought an 8GB stick of RAM, and tried to install it. Everything on my computer is detecting a total of 16GB now, except when i look for properties in windows, it says memory:16GB(8.00GB usuable)

System specs:
ASUS M5A99x EVO motherboard
AMD 6-core(dont know exact product)
2x4 DDR3 kingston 1333Mhz
newly added 1x8GB DDR3 Kingston 1333mhz
samsung SSD 120GB
Caviar Blue 500GB hdd 7200RPM
HIS Radeon HD6840
Windows 7 64bit

the 2x4 GB are in slot A2 & B2, and i put the 8GB in slot B1.
also, my motherboard is in dual channel mode

does anyone know how i can get my system to recognize the new 8GB memory stick?

ps, i havent tried switching ram slots, those things are fitting in so tight, and with the limited space because of my additional CPU fan, i can't pull them out. i don't want to remove any components either, since i think i'll mess stuff up when i reassemble it.

so, thats means that it only accepts memory in pairs of 2?
also, i finally managed to get the RAM out after removing the GPU, and tried booting only with the 8GB in slot A1, and a red light started flashing and nothing happened, then i put the 8GB + a 4GB in slots A2+B2(where the 2x4 originally were) and right now windows says memory:12GB(8GB usuable) so its only using the 8GB stick, but requires 2 to be in place somehow. why is it still only 8GB? (Edit: nothing to see here, never said anything about the c-word:) my apologies)

Danbuscus25, i have 1x8 &1x4 right now. Im 100% sure my mobo supports 8gb sticks since the manual clearly states it accepts up to 32gb ram with 4 slots. Also, 4gb from the8gbstick + 4gb from the 4gb stick? Im no expert but tht seems rather unlikely. My gues is tht its using the 8gb 1 & ignoring the 4gb. I think theres something in the settings tht limits my ram, even though i disabled ram limit in windows settings. Also tried booting with limit set to 16gb.

Cracked as in windows thinks its activated(said so in settings) w/o paying for it or ever going through the activation procedure. Anyway, i was told i shouldnt talk about tht here, sorry for bringing it up

Hello man

Honorable

My MSI 970-G46 (great motherboard right!) does the same thing. I use 16GB right now, and when installing it it was quite a shenanigan.
