Hello!

I'm trying to trouble shoot an office PC that has 2 monitors. Both monitors only have VGA Inputs. The computer has a vga and a DVI-I connector with a i5 intel with on-board graphics.

Whatever I hook up to the VGA port works great. The DVI-I to VGA connection goes to sleep almost immediately after plugging it in.

I tried bringing in a graphics card to trouble shoot the issue maybe with the port but the case it to narrow to fit anything.

In short
1. Made sure it wasn't the VGA Cable
2. Made sure it wasn't the monitors
3. When I unplug the monitor form the back it knows the cable is unplugged so it knows there's something there.
4. Tried the (Windows Key - P) It did not work.
5. Intel Graphics Media and Control Panel only sees 1 monitor
6. Device manager only sees 1 ACER V173
7. Looked in BIOS for anything unusual and didn't see anything for mutli-monitor support for integrated graphics.

I really don't know what else to try. I can't try a descreate graphics card because the case is so narrow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

The integrated graphics does not have dvi-i, it is dvi-d which is why a passive vga-dvi adapter doesn't work. You'd need an active adapter and usually hdmi or dp to vga is cheaper if you have those ports available.

If it has removable expansion slot plates on the back, then it will fit a low profile card. What pc model this is would help.

The many cheap dvi-d to vga adapters are passive and won't work. They are made for converter boxes where the signal is already converted. As I said hdmi or dp is cheaper. The mobo has hdmi so just get an hdmi to vga converter. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1ZZ0XH3942

The case does accept low profile cards. But most will have dvi-i and hdmi so it still won't help and you will still need an adapter.

Thank you!!!! I didn't see the HDMI port till you mentioned it. Sometimes the most obvious things are right infront of you.

Thanks again
