Can I put a sound card in GPU slot on the motherboard?

If I put a sound card like the Creative ZxR on a PCI x16, the slot you would normally put a GPU on, would it work?

I'm asking because mini itx boards only have the x16 slot.

Yep. No is the answer. The reason is he pacing and size of the GPU slot. The sound card would be too far away from the side of the case, and the slot would no be the right speed to deal with it. Over all, just a bad idea.

Well you know what, it does in fact work. I put my ZxR into a x16 slot, obviously my GPU is slowed down by this but for a mini itx build I only want the sound card.

Solved it myself, PCI x1 is compatible with x16. Also fits into my PCI slots fine, lines up the same.
