I want to wipe the Hard drive BARE! I don't exactly have the OS Disk. I am at a total lose at how to get the OS back onto the Mac.
I have Mac OS X version 10.9.1
I know DBAN is possible on Mac, but I just really need to know how to obtain the OS install either via Disk or flash drive.

Solution
It doesn't matter what your ex has put on the computer. You have to run Disk Utility from the Mavericks installer which you download from the Apple Store. I think you have to assume that your ex has not hacked the Apple Store.

The 35-times overwrite option in Disk Utility is as safe as you can get. It will take a while, but no-one will be able to reconstruct data from that disk. This is far more effective than DBan (who say on their web site that there is no guarantee that it erases data).

I do realize that I have such capabilities, but when the is drive a bare naked drive with absolutely no OS on it how is that possible? I might be confused please explain.

For example:
My PC I used DBAN and nothing was left. No OS nothing so I used my Windows 7 OEM disk to reinstall. How does this same process work with mac?

If it's a recent Mac then you can install the OS from the Internet (as long as you are entitled to it and have an Apple ID). Otherwise, the installer has the ability to make an install USB drive.

As you haven't yet wiped your disk (else you wouldn't be asking how to do it), you can download the installer from your current Mac. If you are worried about security and really want to wipe the drive, Disk Utility (which you can run from the install USB) let's you overwrite every sector with 35 different patterns; that will really erase the drive.

It would be easier to answer your question if you gave us some details. What model, and year, is your Mac and which version of OS X is it running (presumably 10.9 as you say you have already purchased it).

Edit: Full instructions on how to do a clean install to a blank disk are given here: http://mashable.com/2013/10/23/clean-install-os-x-mavericks/

It is running 10.9, model iMac 11,2 mid 2010 the Mac came with Mt. Lion. I have considered using the disk utility, but I do have suspicion that the ex put something (very) malicious on my mac. That's another story, but my thing is I truly want the cleanest wipe. My understanding is that nothing is more secure than DBAN.
