Messed with i5 settings causing crash, can't get to bios

Processor: i5-4570 3.2GHz

Hi All,

Just put this together today and had it up and running. Foolishly decided to download intel's OC application and mess around. Changed a setting, Max short term boost, or something like that. Computer crashed and restarted back to windows. I decided to try to change it back to what it was before, and it crashed again but this time just kept turning on for a couple seconds then off, looping until I hit the switch on the psu. I took out the CMOS battery, and then the computer would stay on but wouldn't display anything through the on-board HDMI port. I tried jumping the CLR_CMOS pins but there was no change.

What should I try next?

You will have to replicate your procedure to get back into BIOS, and use the Qflash utility to load a fresh bios image from a usb drive. Go to the Gigabyte website and download the newest BIOS for your motherboard (please double-triple check the revision number).

Is the motherboard stuck in a reboot loop? Does it make any beeps? How long is the board on before it restarts? Have you tried taking the RAM out and booting with one stick at a time (OC can fry RAM sometimes). I've seen motherboards fry from bad OC settings, same with permanently corrupting your BIOS chip. Can you boot into the backup BIOS?

The motherboard was stuck in a reboot loop. Removing the CMOS battery and putting it back in made it stop. Now I have no display but it doesn't restart. There is 1 short beep when I turn it on. I only have 1 stick of RAM in, other is in the mail.

Try to clear CMOS with the video card removed, install the video card and clear cmos again. There are a few variables here that can be causing the problem, and we want to rule out the cheapest ones first :D Also in the future never use a windows program to overclock a CPU. Do it in BIOS, or you are asking for some big problems!

Graphics card is onboard, so I tried removing the RAM and jumping the pins to clear CMOS, that helped and so now I'm able to get into BIOS and I changed the settings to the default, but after I exit (or if I let it boot without entering bios), the display is lost but the computer stays on.

OK try loading the backup bios into the primary bios by pressing alt+f10 (a lot!) during the splash screen.
If you can get into bios again, it may be that you need to flash your bios to the latest version using Qflash.

Ok, well I messed that up. It copied primary to backup instead.

So current status is: one short system beep, can get into bios, after exiting bios my monitor gets no signal.

Thanks for your help, I'll continue troubleshooting tomorrow.
