Microsoft just announced the release of directx 12 for the near future, and now I'm falling into buyers remorse because I just recently bought my first pc with all the bells and whistles. I7-4770k, gigabyte sniper z87 motherboard, and a geforce gtx 780 SC. My gtx is a DX11 based card. Will I be behind in a year now and possibly even unable to play games made for DX12?

many games still dont require more than a dx9 card. and the ones that do require a dx11 card can be hacked to support a dx9 card. I havn't heard anything about dx 12 yet, or what new features it has, but i'd say it would be a while before games REQUIRE dx12 cards, or they would have a very limited audience.

Just an fyi for March 20th: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7835/directx-12-to-be-unveiled-at-gdc-2014

You'd probably need a DirectX 12 graphics card, and probably Windows 9 or whatever OS that DX12 is put on exclusively to try to drive up sales. In any case it won't make much of a difference for a while, DX11 was introduced in 2009 with Windows 7 and it wasn't until 2011 we started to see a decent number of games that even supported DX11, much less required it. Even now, the only game I can think of that requires DirectX 11, and supports no other DirectX version is Crysis 3.

Not to support a new version of DirectX. Although when its finally being used and we have GPUs that support it, current CPUs will prob be out of date anyway
