Hey guys,

Im building my first gaming pc and i need to know which gpu to pick.
I've done a lot of research and the 780 performs real damn nice. But is the 780 overkill for 1080p with very high-ultra settings with 2xMSAA or FXAA? Im looking to save as many $$$ as possible. Will the r9 280x be a better option? It is more than $100 cheaper and only has mild differences from the 780. With that money, I can upgrade my mobo or something.

The 780 is getting a steady 50-55 fps on average on crysis 3, the 280x is managing to make around 45 fps on average. I think that any game with 40+ fps is nice hell even 30 is playable. But if i get 30fps now, it won't last too long in the future. I heard many about issues with crossfire and want to avoid it. I like the idea of SLI, no personal experience but my friend does, checking on his pc, SLI seems really nice.

Do you think i should consider the new consoles? They are amd centred and those games may be optimized for amd on pc like bf4/thief. Not to mention mantle. I'm looking forward to playing games like crysis 3, bf4, thief and watch dogs(when it's out). Considering watch dogs, I've been waiting for it for so long, and its requirements are pretty demanding.

My current idea of a build if it helps:

Trying to keep it under $1700
I will provide more details if needed

What do you guys say? Red team or green team for the best value/performance?

Thnx.

The 780 is indeed overkill for single monitor 1080p. Read in a review that the 780 really comes to it's rights when it is run in a dual 1080p or triple 1080p (5K+ 1080p something). Getting a 1440p monitor get's quite expensive so a dual monitor is a nice option.

Still my vote also goes to the 780 since it just performs at 5%/10% less of a Titan GPU but is only half the price. :)

Ok, so that's one vote for the 780.
Yes, I can save on the CPU, but I need the i7 for pretty heavy video editing and multitasking, not to mention watch dogs demanding it as an ultra spec.

Depends, if the 290 drops less than or equal to the 780, I might invest in it, after all, I'm buying the parts in about a month's time.
