Goal:
Come home, connect my laptop to two external monitors, external wireless key board and mouse as well as speakers and hard drive. That said I want the laptop lid shut. I don't need 3 screens. I only want to utilize the two external monitors and have the laptop function the way a desktop PC would. Currently running windows 8 in a new (but cheap) samsung laptop.

Would this require a docking station? It seems like most things I have read even with a docking station the laptop still needs to be open.

well, You can do that but make sure you have two different video outputs if you want to use the screens separately (you can use 1 but to run them separately you'll need to buy an expensive adapter, not what you'd want to do), otherwise their going to be showing the same thing if you use only one output. If that's not an issue, then you'll be set and it'll be a good setup. You don't need a station, as I did the same thing with my Macbook Pro, just shut the lid, put it under my desk and connected everything up, worked like a charm.
