Hey guys, I have a problem.
After an hour or two of playing games, I get a message saying 'out of memory' even though I have 8GB. This happens with a lot of games and I don't know why because right after this message appears I check the task manager and everything appears to be fine. I also disabled all non-windows startup applications except for drivers and the anti virus/firewall.

Everything was fine about 2-3 weeks ago, but now this happens a lot and once my system just gave me a message and shut down.

Here are my specs:

Memory - 8192GB Ram
Windows version - Windows 8.1 64 Bits
CPU - i7-3630QM 2.40GHz
GPU - 650M 2GB video memory
HDD- 1TB HDD 5400RPM

I would like to ask your opinion on this before I do a factory reset. Do you have an idea as to why this happens?

Thank you!

Solution
normally you will see out of memory errors when your virtual memory runs out. normally because its been turned off or set to low.
vmem should be set to 1.5 your physical mem amount so for you thats 12 gig
right click on ,my computer/properties you should see the system info panel
advanced system settings tab shoulb be visable in the left column click that
you should see a couple of boxes 1 labled perfomance. click its settings/advanced

you should now see the virtual mem manager click it.
uncheck auto manage and click custom size
you should see 3 numbers at the bottom look at recomended and put it in the custom max size above it put the same number -1 so if you put 12000 use 11999
click ok and your done. you may need to reboot.

Open a run box and type in resmon , then go to the memory tab, see what is using all the memory. You might have a lot of programs running in the background.
If you have a lot of backgrounds processes, just close those you dont need, then it will work.

You can also install and run RAMMap it gives a better display than resmon and has much more information to help solve the problem.

If that's not the problem, try to reseat your RAM's. It might as well a problem with the RAM physically.

Hey thank you all for answering. :)

I will try doing that first then. The min. size should be 11999 and the max size 12000?
Thank you and I'll report back if there are any news.

Hey thanks, apparently adding more virtual memory is working, I haven't encountered the same problem so far:bounce:
