I have recently built my own stationary PC. Ever since i started it for the first time, it has been very loud and i think it is running too fast. But i don't know how to fix it. I have a AMD FX-8350 8 core AM3+. I have taken off one side of the case, because i thought it would help, it did not, it would seem. Should i try to go in BIOS?
Can anyone help me?

Thanks!

More about : fan running fast extremely loud

Did you use the stock cooler? If so this "fast running and extremely loud noise" is standard. The fan has to spin VERY fast to keep the CPU cool and this creates LOUD noises.

Yeah it came with the cpu, but isn't there any way to make go just a little slower?

Sure you can make it go slower but then your CPU heats up.

The CPU cooler that comes with FX-8320 and 8350 is awful.

Could you spare a little money to get a better cooler? I am talking around $20 or regional equivalent.

Yeah...I think so, but it's a little "price difference" in Norway, so that 20 bucks cooler would go up to double the price or more.
So i would rather not.

Not much else I can say then other than you'll have to deal with the noisy cooler with high RPM.

Reasons why it's noisy:

Small 80MM fan > Means it has to spin a lot to remove air > It also has a small heatsink behind it in terms of piping.

Larger fans with bigger heat sinks behind them > Spin Less to remove the same or MORE air > Quieter cooler.

This is the cooler I am talking about, I use one for a stock speed FX-8320 if you want to overclock you'll need a more expensive cooler.

https://www.mpx.no/cooler-master-hyper-tx3-evo-cpu-kjle...

Keeps my PC cooler and VASTLY quieter than before.

It's quite expensive you're right so it's up to you to put a price on noise, price is about $34 so not TOO bad but i know what you mean.

Over in Europe we always get shafted.

Infact, IGNORE the TX3 (The price is AWFUL)

It's bigger brother(superior cooling) is 20krone more https://www.mpx.no/cooler-master-hyper-212-evo-cpu-kjle... The funny thing is this cooler is only $8 more than the american price whereas the tx3 is 90% more.

Can your case fit a 16cm CPU cooler?

Yeah we do! :-p But thanks for the help, I will have to start saving up then. I can't deal with it anymore...

Mhm, as a fellow owner of that CPU fan. You've got my deepest sympathies.

hope your case is larger enough to fit the 212 EVO(I edited the post from the one you quoted)

No, it can't. Max 12 cm.

only 12cm height? neither of those coolers will fit.

You'll need to find a smaller one then.

Dumb question, but when you say height do you mean straight "up" or do you mean from the CPU and to the side? because thats where i have 12-13cm to spare.

width is from side to side.

height is like the distance between one side of your case and the other side.

Post your case model and I'll find out what CPU coolers it can fit.

your case is 7.1" wide which means there's enough space for the 212 as you have 18cm of width to play with and the 212 needs 16cm.

Let me explain.

The Height I was discussing was the maximum CPU cooler height (distance from CPU to edge of case)

The Height on the case spec is how tall the case is.

The Width of the case is what you want to look at for CPU coolers on the spec.

aaah, so i should just get the 212? 250kr is like 42 dollars, i can afford that. :-D

Yeah, The Hyper 212 is a great cooler on it's price.

I wouldn't try overclocking yet though as your case doesn't seem to have much air flow(not many fans) and I have no idea what motherboard you're using :p

The Hyper 212 is 50% larger than the stock fan at 120mm compared to 80mm and spins at 1/3 of the speed (1000-1500 rpm usually)
This will be night and day worth of difference.

Here's a sound comparison. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wi0zI6gKayY

I have actually put a fan at the back of the case, ita a 80mm also. I have a ASUS Mainboard S-AM3+ AMD760G m-ATX PCI-E Audio GbLAN Raid 1394 SATA2 USB3.0

loooong....

Wow, you put an FX-8350 on a 760G chipset mobo? You're mental dude :D

Don't OC and pray the VRM's don't catch fire( they regulate CPU voltage)

is it "that" dangerous?? first i have heard about it! :-S

The 760G chipset have exposed voltage regulation modules, these regulate the voltage/power going into the CPU.

On fx-4 and fx-6 series processors having them exposed doesn't matter at stock speeds.

For FX-8 it's a problem especially with the FX-8350 by the way catch fire is an overstatement, they're likely to just overheat and die(if they do die which they may not)

http://img.dxcdn.com/productimages/sku_125230_1.jpg - exposed VRM's(you can see them above the cpu socket)

http://photos.expertreviews.co.uk/images/front_picture_... (covered by a big blue rectangular heatsink in this image)

It's not "dangerous" as such it's just beware that they may die. I really can't recommend you use unheatsinked VRM's with the 8350 as it's known to go above it's 125TDP but you CAN use them at a risk.
