Sudden Low FPS

So I've been searching the web for a couple hours and haven't found anything really helpful. All of a sudden today my FPS just dropped in all my games. I mostly play WoW and LoL and both ran at 50+ fps all the time, but today they suddenly dropped to -20 fps and i can't figure out why.

Specs:
CPU - AMD FX-8350 Vishera 4.0 GHz
Mobo - Gigabyte ga-970a-ud3
GPU - XFX GeForce 9800 GT
RAM - Crosair VengeanceLP 8GB DDR3 1600
HDD - 500GB WD Black 7200rpm
PSU - HP585D 585W

Could be a heating issue on your CPU causing throttling, what cooler do you use and how long have you owned the system, if it's a sudden drop after a long time then nothing wrong with cpu throttling

Do you have the latest drivers for your GPU?

the cpu/ram/mobo are about a year old, the rest is about 6 years old. i use a hyper 212 evo cooler and CPU under gaming load would only reach temps of about 35ºC, my gpu would only hit about 68ºC. after reading another post about a similar problem, i downloaded GPU-Z and saw that my gpu load would be over 80%, would that mean its my PSU? Yes i have latest gpu drivers.

No, it's just your GPU is very old

PSU is probably fine albeit it's a pretty bad PSU.

If you could replace both PSU and GPU that'd boost performance BUT

It doesn't explain the RANDOM sudden drop in performance, maybe your GPU is damaged in some way so is throttling its speed.

hmm, well i'm going to try and give it a real good cleaning, see if that does anything, i'm hoping to upgrade it soon. 750ti is lookin real nice right now.

cool. i think i will, in the meantime, i'll see whats up with this card atm. could adjusting the gpu's clock/memory from the stock settings help at all?

edit: so i turned off my computer, cleaned my card as best i could without removing the heat sink, started up WoW and it seems to be running ok. i'm back to getting 45+ fps with original settings, though my gpu load is still going up to from 70-90%.
