I'm bulding a computer to run blender, a 3d moddeling program. Here are the specs:

Motherboard - ASUS MAXIMUS VI HERO, socket 1150

Processor - Intel® Core™ i7-4770

Grafic Cart - ASUS GTX750TI-PH-2GD5

RAM - Corsair 4 GB DDR3-1333

Hard Drive - Seagate Desktop HDD, 500 GB

PSU - Corsair CS550M, 550 Watt

Case - Corsair Carbide 200R

My questions are: Are all the components compatible? Should I buy anything else? Althoug I can afford it (right now it's around 824€) , it would be better if it was a bit cheaper, since I will also have to buy the perifericals. Do you advise downgrading anything?

1) you should choose at least 8Gb of Ram
2) the ram should also be minimum of 1600mhz
3) I would change the CPU to the Xeon 1230 v3 and the motherboard to a cheaper B85/H87 board
4) invest in a SSD for windows/boot drive - This is one thing that will make your PC very fast in normal every day use, well worth the money.

here are their system specs, so 8gb of ram is a very good idea 16gb would be even better.

General information

Blender 2.6x works on nearly all operating systems. It runs out of the box, you don't even have to install it. Just unpack the archive you find in the Download section and start Blender!

Graphics card note: Blender runs on all Open GL compliant cards, although there are some issues with cheap onboard cards (Intel, Via). We therefore can't officially support and guarantee that Blender works fine on those systems.

Operating Systems
•Windows XP SP3, Vista, 7 or 8
•Mac OS X 10.6 and later
•Linux
•FreeBSD

Minimal specs for Hardware

32 bits, Dual Core CPU with at least 2 GHZ, and SSE2 support.
2 GB RAM
24 bits 1280x768 display
Mouse or trackpad
OpenGL Graphics Card with 256 MB RAM

Average specs for Hardware

64 bits, Quad Core CPU
8 GB RAM
Full HD Display with 24 bit color
Mouse or trackpad
OpenGL Graphics Card with 1 GB RAM

Production specs for Hardware

64 bits, Dual 8 Core CPU

I'll be running linux, is it still worth it to ged SDD for bootup?

Also, blender can take advanteage of multiple cores in he CPU while sculpting (I don't remember the technical details), and since i7 has multithread technology, I thought it was the best for it.

I'll probably downgrade the motherboard.

I will definitly get more ram.

Is the graphyc card used heavily for anything other than rendering?

Thank you once again

SSD isnt just for boot up, it speeds up general use as any paging or access of system files/applications will be accessed much quicker.

Also, the Xeon 1230 v3 is basically the same as the i7 4770 (both have hyper threading), except the xeon is a bit cheaper and doesnt have the IGPU ( you dont need that because you have a GPU).

So, after the coments (thaks everyone) this is my actual configuration:

Motherboard - ASUS B85-PLUS

RAM - Corsair 8 GB DDR3-1600 Kit

Processor - Intel® Xeon® E3-1230V3

Grafic card - ASUS GTX750TI-PH-2GD5

SSD Drive - Crucial M500 Serie CT120M500SSD1, 120 GB

PSU - Corsair CS550M

Case - Corsair Carbide 200R

What do you think? Thank you once again for the support

Sounds like you are all set then!

Only other thing I would suggest, would be a cheap CPU cooler, as the intel stock ones are terrible and quite loud.

The cm hyper 212 is quiet and will keep your cpu nice and cool, but as you wont be overclocking you could get the Hyper TX3.
