I am going to move my i7-2600k from my ASUS P8P67 Deluxe to the new board. It has been running flawlessly at 4.6GHz for a few years and I want to up it to between 4.8 and 5.0 preferably.

My old memory is 4 sticks of Corsair XMS3 CMX8GX3M2A299C9.

I have purchased 16G of Corsair Dominator CMP16GX3M4X1600C7 for this new build. I have read somewhere in these forums that it is not recommended because it was for a 1156 board and might not be stable OC'ing in a 1155 build?

If this is true; then I have no idea what to get as they all look the same to me. I have looked thru the Qualified Vendor List in the MB handbook but it does not speak of OC'ing

Please help.

Thanks

Try Corsair Vengence. Not so overprices and decent RAM. Overclock is just top notch (I have ran 1600 Mhz at 1833 and until 2000Mhz) by relaxing the timings.

But I have a query as 2500K has unlocked multipliers and dividers why are you facing problem with current RAM and decided to discard it just go for lower memory divider. XMS 3 is just the Vengeance which runs at 1.65V instead of 1.5V. (More efficient) overclocks little less.

Well, I just got a new EVGA GTX-780Ti sc and decided I wanted to utilize PCIe 3.0 so I got the new board. Then I decided I might as well go up to 5.0GHz because my primary joy is FSX and it likes all the GHz you can muster. That led to needing a better cooling capacity so I ordered a new water cooler system from FrozenPC to replace my Noctua NH-D14.

Then.... I thought maybe the old memory was not really up to the new build so I would update it too. So I bought the new memory before checking it out here at Tom's.

So.... that's how I got here.

Now that you mention it, should I give consideration to 1866 or better rather than sticking with 1600? 1.65 vs 1.5; out of my wheelhouse. Need help there too. I can spell OC but I am not very knowledgeable. I tend to go for the easy pieces.

Well if there is lot of price difference I would prefer 1600Mhz and OC it to 1866 Mhz.
Go for low voltage model cause it can be overclocked better. (At similar voltage 1600Mhz 1.5V can go to 1866Mhz at 1.65V.)

I have a C9 version of same thing. It works fine on 1156 system and will work on 1155 too. If you have 1155 system get Vengence Pro (It is said to be 1155 optimized).

Wow, $1,299 down to $169 for 16G. I am at a loss, where to start? I sure can't afford $1,299!

Could you give me a specific skew or two maybe? I will likely be buying them from newegg as I have o return the Dominator there, if it is not up to the task.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006519%2050001459%2040000147%20600006050&IsNodeId=1&Manufactory=1459&name=240-Pin%20DDR3%20SDRAM

I doubt I will be jacking them up any more than I have to, to make the system stable and have no plans at current to wc cool them.

Thanks
