Is My CPU Bottle Necking My Performance?

System is as follows:

Asus M5A97 LE R 2.0
AMD Phenom X6 1055T Thuban processor @3.2 Ghz
12 Gigs of DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
MSI AMD Radeon 7950
1 TB Sata HDD @ 7200 RPM
Creative X-fi Xtremegamer

Would it be worth it to upgrade the CPU to a 8350 or similar? I just ordered a noctua cooler to push the chip a little harder, but is my CPU really holding me back that much?

I've hit 4.0 GHZ with this chip using the stock cooler but it was wicked unstable...

Check your gpu and cpu usage while playing games. It really just depends on which games you play, but i`m going to assume that your cpu is bottlenecking a 7950.

If you are wondering if a component is bottlenecking another, simply press CTRL Alt Del and then go to the performance tab. If your CPU usage is at 100%, yes it is bottlenecking. If you are wondering if your GPU is bottlenecking your CPU download MSI afterburner. It's free. If your GPU usage is at 100%, yes it is bottlenecking.

That isn't the best indicator, because not many games utilize all six of the cores. So if you play a game that is optimized for 2 cores, the usage will only show 30-40%, even when it is bottlenecking. The best way to tell is if you are in a game in which you have a low framerate, and then changing the graphics settings. If the framerate does not significantly change, you likely have a bottleneck on your hands. If the framerate becomes smooth when you lower the settings, then you likely are not bottlenecking.
