hdmi connection not working

I just got a computer built. I have a dual monitor set up using samsung monitors syncmaster p2770. I have a hdmi hook up in one monitor which works perfectly fine. But the hdmi connection to the 2nd hdmi port on the pc (located near the dvi/d input) does not show the screen. Is my graphics card broke or motherboard not working properly? Do I need to take this back? I hate to have just built a new computer with a part not working

Thanks pyr0. I had done all of those tests already and it definitely was the port out the computer. And I was quite upset that I would have to take apart my entire workstation to bring it in. However, I didn't have to do that because I was told that my setup on the top half of my computer got negated by my video card outputs that sit below it. So some of top outputs are not functional. One of my hdmi outputs sits there. The solution: I do have a display port next to the hdmi on the graphics card that I can use or I'd need to install another graphics card :/ So I ordered a display port to hdmi with audio cable :/ I guess that's my best bet for now. SOLVED

Try using a different cable first. Then take the cable you know is working, plug in into the monitor you know is working, then test the 2nd port with that. If it doesn't work, then its a broken port. If it works, then something is wrong with the second monitor.
