I was gonna install a fresh OS (Win 7 Ultimate) on my brand new SSD . , Which is crucial m500. . I was wondering do i really need to manually configure AHCI on the bios? my motherboard is Gigabyte 970a DS3p. . I hope some of you guys could help me. . Thanks in advance.

Solution
I would plug it into one of the free 0-3. That way your mobo (and OS) only have to support one mode. Also recommended to use SATA port 0 for your new SSD with your OS on it (port 0 is usually the default location for main drive)

If you have the SSD hooked up and it's being detected by the motherboard, just have a peek in bios and it should say if it's working in AHCI. Otherwise "configuring it" is as simple as selecting to run in AHCI mode (from a drop down menu or whatever) and then exiting the BIOS while saving the changes.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for answering, I just ordered my SSD and its on its way. . Im just wondering about this kind of settings. . So that i know what im doing. . 1 more question i also have my old 1tb WD caviar blue. . and on the mobo settings the AHCI slots are my 0~3 sata ports so should i plug my Mechanical drive on 0~3 ports or should i plug it on 4 ~ 5 port?
