Hello, I'm currently looking to make a build for my dad for his birthday. He doesn't game at all, I just need a PC that's fast enough for general computing (e.g. YouTube, browsing, Microsoft Office, Facebook, etc.).

I'd like it to be as cheap as possible, £300 is what I'm hoping to spend but I can probably go above that by a bit. Thanks.

I do not need peripherals or an OS.

That will be fast for his needs and it has an inbuild GPU for videos etc.

Thanks for the build! I'll see if anyone else replies.

To my mind, the most essential component for such a build would be a.....
SSD.

I suggest:
1. 120gb ssd 60# http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-120GB-Basic-Solid-State/dp/B00E391KA8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394127165&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+ssd+120gb

2. Antec ISK150, a very small ITX case and psu: 69#
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Antec-ISK300-150-0-8mm-Mini-ITX-Construction/dp/B0036CSMSG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1394127086&sr=8-1&keywords=antec+isk+150

3. Inexpensive lga1150 motherboard #52
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASRock-H81M-ITX-Mainboard/dp/B00EOBXQW0/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1394127229&sr=1-1&keywords=lga1150+itx+motherboard

4. Any lga1150 intel cpu. Integrated graphics is fine, and the faster intel cores will be sufficient. You could buy any one, but a G3420 is about right $47:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Pentium-3-20GHz-Extended-Technology/dp/B00EF1G9TG/ref=sr_1_7?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1394127311&sr=1-7&keywords=intel+1150+cpu

5. 4gb of ram is ok. Speed does not matter. Here is a 2 x 2gb kit for $24
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-KVR1333D3S8N9K2-4G-1333MHz-ValueRAM/dp/B005JEINSS/ref=sr_1_13?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1394127476&sr=1-13&keywords=ddr3+ram+4gb+kit

6. If you want a dvd drive, you will need a slim type

If you have budget left over, you could up the cpu or the ram.

Thank you for the suggestions :)

As a rule, you are correct.
But, Antec is one of the few exceptions with decent psu's included in their cases.

Without a graphics card, a typical pc actually needs only about 80w.
The G3420 is only a 54w cpu, and the rest of the parts are minimal.
Even the strongest quad would run.

I probably would've given you the solution but it's a bit late but thanks any ways! :)
