What is the proper way of adding SSD? I have my os and lots of my programs on my existing WD Caviar blue. . i have backed up all my files on my external HDD so i want to wipe it out now. . What is the right method of doing it? should i just let them both plugged on my motherboard? or should i just plug the SSD first and then plug my HDD after installing my OS on my SSD? i need some guidance here. . thanks in advance.

Solution
Dear just follow these steps:

Plug in your SSD and HDD.
Power on the system.
Go to BIOS options and select boot from optical drive [Hoping that you are installing from Windows Installer DVD/CD]
Restart the system.
It will boot from that CD/DVD
Follow the on screen steps.
Where the setup shows the available drives either format/delete the partitions on HDD.
Select SSD and then install the Windows on it.

That's it and you're done
You can go either way. My mobo supports enabled me to install OS on SSD while SSD and HDD were plugged in same time. While Installing Windows 7 and above you really need not to worry about this issue though.

Easiest way is to plug in SSD only and then install OS.

Never had to do the above, all I do is ensure that during Windows install when it displays what ssd's/hdd's/partitions it can see, ensure that any existing partitions are deleted and then just select the blank ssd and away Windows goes. Once Windows is setup, use disk manager to setup the hdd.

Did things change over night? Why would you plug the HDD and SSD in at the same time when installing OS? Is there a reason to do this? There is sure to be complications if you do so. You are much safer off installing OS with only SSD plugged in. Then all you have to do is plug in the HDD and you are 100% in the clear.

There are no complications while installing OS on SSD with HDD. However, I believe that OP is not comfortable with the options. So in that case it would be better for OP to plug in SSD only and install OS on it and then plug in HDD, though this is absolutely not necessary.
