Hello!

I feel that i have finally narrowed down all the parts of my build after much research and i feel that my current list is quite solid. However, this is my first independent build and i would really appreciate any input or advice that could be offered. I've built the machine that I'm on now, but it was with a lot of help from a friend of mine. It'll be a mostly gaming focused system, with the ability to get work/school done on it when necessary. I will also be overclocking both the CPU and the GPU(s).

The only caveat with it is that, due to budget, i cannot afford to grab everything outright. So I'm focusing on grabbing the case, CPU, motherboard, SSD, and the CPU cooler. The RAM, second video card, and upgraded PSU can wait until i have more wiggle room with funds, since those are not crucial components. I would like to grab the previous mentioned ones at one time to lower the number of reinstall times as well as making over all building of the system smoother. I figure that grabbing these will reduce the amount of headaches i could run into.

Parts list:

CPU: Intel i5 4670K 3.4GHz Quad Core
CPU cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0CFM Liquid
Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VI Hero ATX LGA1150
Memory: (owned) G.Skill Ripjaw Series 8GB 1600MHz (Upgrading to Corsair Dominator 16GB 1800MHz)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk for my boot
(owned) Samsung Spinpoint F3 250GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
GPU: (owned) EVGA GeForce GTX 780 (Upgrading to dual SLI when possible)
Case: Corsair 750D
PSU: Current- (owned) Corsair 650W TX. Upgrade- Still undecided, probably 850W

I would like a modular PSU when i upgrade that, and i've been told that 850W would be more than enough even for the overclocking i plan to do with both the dual GPUs and the CPU. I like the 750D for the space that it allows for airflow and the eventual upgrade to full water cooling down the road. I'll fully admit that the choice of the Corsair Dominators is one purely based on aesthetics.

All in all i'm looking at just over $700 for the initial purchases.

Any comments or feedback would be appreciated, and thanks for taking the time to take a look!

Save money on the motherboard, unless you really need everything the Hero offers. Gigabyte makes a great SLI capable motherboard for only about $120 or so.

On the PSU, 850w is perfect. XFX and SeaSonic is who I would recommend, both have modular PSUs around $120 or so.

And about the Dominators, fully up to you, but an extreme waste of money in my opinion lol

Other than what has been said already, I would suggest more storage, like a 1TB HHD since their are several for $55

Alright, i found a nice Seasonic modular 80+ gold, and I'm taking a look at the Gigabyte boards now, and I'm seeing the GA-Z87X-D3H. Will it OC to the same degree that the Hero will? And will the audio be comparable, as well? Yeah, i know the Dominators are a bit silly, but if i have the budget when i upgrade i figure i could have a little fun with it. Especially since that will be the last piece to the puzzle for me. Of course, that could change a month or two from now so that's something that's not set in stone.
And the hard drive i have listed as owned is actually a TB drive, i must have accidentally cut it off when moving it to the list.
Thanks for the feedback!

i have a 900D and I can say that the build quality just isnt as good as i had expected. Id save a few bucks and go with a Fractal Define R4

If you're not going with custom loop water cooling, it'll do just as well. It's the CPU that will determine the amount of overclock you get.

And the 750D has great build quality, just as good if not better than the Define R4. Either one will do you wonderfully.

I was not suggesting the 650D. The Define R4 is $60 cheaper than the 750D and I don't believe the quality of the 750D is worth the extra money. I think they are about the same in terms of quality.
