Hello everyone,

The issue has been around for a while and I had pinpointed it down to too many usb devices plugged in but lately it is different.

At first I thought it might be the Graphics card overheating as it happened during gaming but now it has happened when the machine has been idle or when watching a youtube video.

Both times in the past few weeks I have found that when trying to turn the machine back on the CPU fan doesn't start.

This is usually solved by removing the power cable and pumping the power button a few times (to power down the capacitors). Plugging everything in and powering on the machine after that usually gets everything working very well again.

I'm not quite sure where the problem is, is it the PSU? (Thermaltake 700W) the motherboard? Or the CPU fan?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you

Well, let´s not draw a conclusion too fast. It might have been if your cpu, ram mobo or hdd´s are overheating. Try speedfan to monitor temps. Anything above 90 degrees Celsius is really bad, I don´t know exacly in Farenheit. It can also be your psu. How old is it? Already 3 psu's have died on me because of capacitor aging. Just check your temps and if everything is alright buy a new 700w psu.

Many thanks for the suggestions so far.

I tried a few things to try and isolate the issue

I've run some stress tests on the CPU (running 4 concurrent infinite loops), kept the processor at 90-92% for about fifteen minutes and the temperature peaked at 70 degrees celcius so I'm thinking that the CPU is fine.

I also ran a test on the GPU using gputest and that also seems fine (temp at 68 celcius) so it seems that the PSU is probably the culprit.

The whole system is about 3,5 years old now that's why I was suspecting everything.

Only the hard drives are all a year or less old

Many thanks again
