Hi

I have a serious problem with my system , am using an AMD processor with Biostar motherboard , since few days my system sometimes detect the HDD and sometimes not,
and now it is showing the hard drive but windows is not starting up, am using windows XP Home, i thought that the hard drive has crashed and bought a new 500GB SATA harddrive.

now i am trying to format the new hard drive after the format is almost complete say 100% it is giving me the error that there seem to be a problem with the hard drive and the system is not
able to format and load windows on this new drive, i even tried with another hard drive it gives me the same error.

I remember in the past this problem had come across and my computer technician told me that the problem is with the motherboard and he replaced the mother board, I just want to know if again the problem is with the mother board and not the hard drive

would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance

Raj

on newer hard drive there formatted to 4k blocks windows xp looks for 512 byte formatting you may have to run a 3 party tool on the newer hard drive to re-aline the partion info. one thing that can cause issues with drives is unclean power from a power supply. if your mb been replaced before i would see if someone has a test power supply to rule out bad power.
