Dear Sirs,

Please can you advise me which motherboard is better and why, only asking as the 'five' seems to be more expensive and the moment?

1. ASUS Maximus V (five) Extreme - 'has to go back under warranty due to a faulty 3.5" rear I/o plug socket, or

2. ASUS Maximus VI (six) Extreme.

I considered to ask for your insight, as I was going to ask if it would be possible to upgrade.

The V has the thunderbolt feature and the VI does not, what is it really for???

For your info I have the following hardware:

1x Weston Digital 1TB
2x G.skill 8GB DDR3 Rams
1x Blu Ray\DVD\CD RW
1x D VD\CD RW
1x Radeon HD 5870 PCIe Series
1x Multi Card and USB 3.0 port, 2.0 port, fast charge USB port. (size 3.5")
1x Intel i7 3440k (not yet used - brand new)
1x Noctua NH-C12P SE14 Top-Down CPU Heatpipe Heatsink with NF-P14 Fan
1x ?? I am sure I have missed something ?? - Never mind

Kind regards in advance, Jonathan

Thunderbolt is the fastest data transfer available for the normal user at the moment. Makes it easy to transfer data and daisy chain displays. For the motherboard, I would recommend the VI.

The boards are not the same, they are not compatible either. One is socket 1150 and the other is socket 1155. So it isn't a question of picking which one is "better", it is a question of picking which one fits your CPU, since you already have the CPU.

Dear Deuce65,

The CPU (1155) is no issue as I a within the 14 day cooling period to return and go for the Intel: (1150) Core i7-4771 or is the Core i7-4770 (K, S, T) better? If so please add to your previous reply.

Thank you, Jonathan

In that case I would go with the 4770k and the maximus 6.
