Hello everyone!
I'm looking forward to get a new CPU in April to replace my old E8400, but I'm really undecided between these 2 CPUs: Intel Core i5 4440 and AMD FX 8320, I mostly do gaming (all kind of games, new ones like BF4 but also older ones from about 2004/05) and server hosting (servers for the game trackmania united forever but its ok even on this cpu).
Can you suggest me the right CPU please? (no fanboyism!)
Rest of the PC (everything bought):
GTX650Ti 1GB (maybe will get a 760 later but its unlikely)
Seasonic S12ii 520W 80+
CM Hyper 212 Evo
Zalman Z11+ case
Very old HDD
8GB 1600 (I have 4gb 1600 but ill get another 4gb kit later)

Ok. Remember, core count isn't everything. You'll be very happy with it for the games you've listed though.

If you would've read the whole post you would've seen that already have the 650ti. I'm typing from it now :p

Can't tell exactly because here in Romania they are much more expensive than in the US. You get a 970 mobo in Romania at the price of a 990fx one in the us

The FX-8320 is 35$ cheaper and you won't notice a difference between it and the i5 playing these games. GTA 5 isn't out yet and I don't think there was any official announcement that it was going to be released for PC.

Well I'm pretty sure it will come out sooner or later on PC.
Anyway in wich games am I going to notice a difference?

I can tell you this... I play some online MMO's, specifically World of Tanks. With my i5 3570k@4.5Ghz and a GTX660Ti, I get 100FPS on MAX. With my nephews 8350@4.5Ghz and a GTX660Ti, he get's 60FPS on MEDIUM!. WoT's only uses 1 or MAYBE 2 cores. This is why Intel has such a huge advantage. In games like BF4, and COD: Ghosts, you'll notice a lot smaller difference. But personally, I rather get all the FPS I can. You might lose 10-15FPS out of 100.

But after experiencing very bad performance in a number of games I play that only use 1-2 cores, I can never picture myself buying an AMD CPU again. I like AMD too, I own a PS4 and I love it. But AMD does lag behind with enthusiast grade CPU's. They are good with the APU's and low power CPU's though.

+1 to that.

I've heard that AMD is a little behind for multiplayer performance in BF4 against an i5 4670. The FX 8320 would probably be on par with an i5 4440 in BF4.

As you can see, they're very close. As EricJohn2004 pointed out, there are many games where there is a much larger performance gap.

CoD Ghosts is an awful port to PC, I wouldn't give the developers a dollar for it.

Here is the benchmark anyway:

The FX 8350 is behind a few generations old intel i5.

As for GTA V I'd assume it would prefer intel's single core performance, as most games of the X360/PS3 gen have. I'd take the 4440.

Bigworld is an outdated engine to start with, probably one of the worst out there.
