Remove CPU w/o removing heatsink?

I'm selling my cpu, and it'd be really convenient for me and the buyer if I didn't have to remove the heatsink from the cpu in order to get it out of my motherboard. Will they both just come out still stuck together? It's a new amd 6 core with the stock cooler that has preapplied thermal compound. Will it work?

Solution
Just remove the heatsink, it's easier to package it up separately and like others have said the CPU is latched down with the heatsink between the CPU and the latch which means it has to come off. Just run your computer for a little bit to allow the heat to loosen up the thermal paste so you don't damage the CPU trying to pry the heatsink off.

Then just use some isopropyl alcohol and cotton balls to remove the old thermal compound.

If you can get the latch undone, and if the thermal paste is holding the two together, then yes. Still, the buyer should reapply the thermal paste anyway.

you will never get the cpu out of the motherboard without removing the heatsink first as you must release the latch that secures the cpu in place or risk damaging the pins. pin damage means dead cpu not worth taking the risk :)

Thanks for the reply. Their going to reapply eventually once they get a new cooler. Like I was they're planning on only using the stock heatsink for a few weeks til' they get cash to buy a new cooler. We have thermal paste, the issue is removing the paste already on the CPU. I don'thave the chemicals to do it, and don't really want to buy them

Sorry, my answer was a little facetious.

Like everyone has been saying, there's no *safe* way to do it without removing the CPU cooler. However, you could (theoretically) do it if you could get the latch undone and the paste was sticking the two parts together. It's just you can't do that safely.

Plus, all you need is some isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth. NEVER use anything cotton, you will get little bits and pieces of lint on your CPU, it will scratch, and you will be left with a contact plate that is worse at transferring heat.
