fill the color ink cartridges with water Brother printer

Since this wonderful Brother printer won't print in black if any of the color cartridges are empty and they're all empty bc it kept printing in color anyway, why don't we just fill the cartridges with water, or colored water, so it thinks its full and then print in black?

I realize that, but if you could get the viscosity of ink with a thickener, you could restart it to print in black ink only forever. other than that it's crap. But thanks for the help anyway. Now I'm going back to my laser printer, I have to get a parallel to usb cable and hopefully that solves the problem. I found toner for $22.00 and it should last 3 yrs at least bf it runs out.
found a bunch of brother printers on craigslist which doesn't speak well for what other people think of them. They're $20 bucks.
