Is it possible to build computers as a hobby and not lose money?

I recently finished my new PC build, and I have to admit that the journey seems to be better than the destination. I liked racking my brain over compatibility and finding the best prices, and troubleshooting.

So if someone built a computer, didn't use it too much (basically like a 1 week old computer just to get everything installed and running smoothly) would the selling price be much less than the total buying price? .... Or could someone even make money doing this?

Sure you can build computers and sell them for more, that's why people build them. The real question is can you find enough people that want to buy a new computer to continue to build them and sell them. I've probably done this around 15 times over the years. Friend or friend of friend wants a computer, they show me something they want on the net (dell.com or something). They see the price as $1500, I research parts and find a build for $1000, say I'll build it for $1100 (and a six-pack), and do it.

Just remember that if YOU build someone a computer YOU become tech support for said person. Put a Linux destro and a bunch of anti-malware on a flash drive and be ready.
