Thinking of buying a GTX 780, but worried about bottleneck

Hello folks.

I currently have a GTX 570 that has served me well for the last few years. I'm thinking of upgrading to a brand new GTX780, but am worried that my aging AMD Phenom X6 1035T CPU is going to bottleneck it. I currently have the CPU OCed to 3.4ghz, and can probably push it a touch further to 3.5 or maybe even 3.6ghz. Will it cause me any issues?

I am also thinking of picking up an FX-8350 further down the road as I do have an AM3+ motherboard. Should I maybe pick this up before I upgrade the video card? Should I just sit on my money for another month or two and just buy them together?

Your input is greatly appreciated!

Solution
Don't change your mobo just to get i5. Save some bucks. Get FX 8350 (with aftermarket air cooler) and GTX 780. You'll be served very well in future with this change.

The 780 is a pretty big step up from a 570, but you may want to upgrade your cpu. This amd was somewhat equivalent to the i7 860 so it powerful but you might just want to pick up the 8350. If you don't want to upgrade your cpu you could take a step down to a 770 or a r9 280x

The i5 certainly would be better, but it wouldn't be worth getting a new motherboard over. Have you considered getting the 8320 and the GTX 770? The 770 is only slightly worse than the GTX 780 (usually like 7-10 frames per second slower).

Wow! Thanks for all the input so far folks! Wasn't expecting such a response so quickly.

If I'm going to upgrade the CPU I'm probably going to stick with an AMD CPU for now as my budget really doesn't allow for a new motherboard. I'm looking to get a good solid 2-4 years out of the setup which is why I was looking at the 780 vs the 770 in the first place, but I was also considering the 4GB version of the 770 if that helps with your advice :).

Also if it helps I'm gaming on a 1080p monitor, with a little 1280x1024 off to the side that I use as a secondary display for when I'm in-game. I don't really have the room for anything larger so I'll probably be sticking with my current monitor setup for at least a year or so.

I already have a Coolermaster Seidon that keeps my OCed 1035t very very cool. I'll probably be sticking to that.

Good for you.
