intel processor upgrade

Is there any upgrade for the dual core intel processor that's in my Dell optiplex 380? I don't have high hopes but I was just curious.

I3, i5, i7 I know those but I am not sure how to go about looking for information.

if you can somehow find the board model, maybe you could find some info related to the supported cpu. Sorry, i am not too familiar with oem's, i build my own rig

The model number may be printed on the motherboard or you can also try CPUZ or HWINFO to identify the motherboard. You can likely upgrade it to a core 2 quad. http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/optiplex-380-tech-guide.pdf

Hi there!

The best CPU you can fit into an Optiplex 380 would be an Intel® Core2Quad Q9650/3.00GHz. Without knowing which chip you have, I have no way of knowing if this is an upgrade from what you already have. However, given the current retail value of said chip, and depending on how badly you want to upgrade, it may be cheaper to consider upgrading everything.

Intel 82801GB (ICH7/R)

BIOS: Dell Version A05

I have no idea what all that means.

So is it possible for me to go from a dual core 2.7ghz to a quad core 3.0ghz?
