so ive recently built a new pc, but when i try to boot it up there's no sign of any change in the pc. the motherboard light is on but no components are changing, ive done and redone the io multiple times to no avail and checked all power is plugged in properly. what else can i do?

specs are as follows:
asus H87i-plus motherboard, i7 4770, 16 gb of corsair vengeance ram @1600mz, bitfenix prodigy, corsair cs550m modular psu, western digital caviar black 2tb, samsung 840 evo 120gb ssd.

Your power button might not be working. Try starting the computer on the motherboard. If you have a power button on the motherboard try switching it on that way, if not try jumping it by using a conductor like a coin and pressing it on the 2 power pins (Where your power button for your case plugs in)

I assume that you have the power switch for you case plugged into the header pins for power. You could try to remove this connector and short the two pins manually. It wouldn't be the first time a defective power switch caused a no boot scenario.

Beyond that, eliminate everything you don't need to boot. You don't mention a video card, but if you have one and forgot to mention it, remove it as well and try to boot with the integrated graphics.

Also have you tried resetting the CMOS?

are there any risks to jump starting it with a coin or just jump starting it in general?

There is no risk when jumping your power pins. It acts the same as your power button on your computer case.

Well the only risks would be if you drop the item you are using to short the pins onto the motherboard. Just keep a hold of it and you'll be alright.
