Hi,

Not sure if this is possible... have been reading a bit about WoL but it all seems to assume you are either connected to that LAN or have another computer on at all times on that LAN.

Basically, I work away from home a lot. Only have the one computer plugged into the wireless modem/router for the house. Normally off when I am away.

I really want to be able to turn my computer on via the internet (or other.. I don't know like a physical switch that wires to my pc and connects to wifi which I then send an on signal to over internet?)... and then be able to remote desktop from my surface tablet, do my thing and shutdown afterwards. I will obviously be using a different internet connection out here.

The closest thing I can see that might make this possible is something like sending a magic packet through my router to the sleeping PC to awaken. I guess if we have a power out then I am stuck until I get home.

Sorry, I am not particularly fantastic with computers/thmart generally... been googling about for a few days now and just want to know if this is even possible. This or I'm going to invent some sort of suspended weight that I can drop on the power button which I'll hold in place with a phone I call.... just need to work out how to make it vibrate out the locking pin. I'll just have to have maybe ten or so hanging up to be able to start it after shutdowns!! :p :(:(
