Will i be able to get 7.1 surround with Sennheiser PC 360 and Realtek ALC892?

i have an ASUS P8Z77-V mobo and was looking at the Sennheiser PC 360. but idk if i can get 5.1/7.1 with the onboard sound. or how to :/

you do not need a sound card to use that head set. it uses a standard 3.5mm jack so you should be fine.

only reason to get a sound card would be if you like the way audio sounds from a card significantly more than from your board. And I suggest you some how find the answer to that before settling on something. Perhaps you could test one out from best buy and return it if you don't find a significant difference.

What do you want it for? Gaming? Music?

If it's for gaming, change your in-game audio settings to something like "Headphones".

For music, you can't change an audio file so it sounds like surround sound, it depends on how the music was recorded in the first place.

Also, never get a sound card, they are a waste of money.
