Recently bought a Asus 780 3gb and was wondering if i can somehow use my old 580 3gb for the vram or something? if that makes since?

Solution

Even if you had an other 780 and sli it, you would still have 3gb vram, since data must be mirrored for the extra performance. also
Any CUDA-ready GeForce graphics card (series 8 and newer, with a minimum of 256MB of video memory) can take advantage of PhysX without the need to install a dedicated PhysX card, so better sell it sinces still is a capable one.
