hi Networking experts,
I had purchased a TP link (TD-W8961ND 300Mbps Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router) device for Internet broadband through my local telecom operator. I was not happy with the service so I switched to my local cable modem operator. They have provided me a CISCO DPQ2160 cable modem. Unfortunately it has only one ethernet port with no wifi. The ethernet cable from the CISCO DPQ2160 is jacked into my Laptop directly for connecting to the internet. My question is whether it is possible to connect the RJ45 comming out of CISCO into the one of the ports of the TP-Link device ( it has four LAN ports) and use the wifi of the TP-Link for wifi access. Do let me what should be done in order to get it working, if possible.
If you require additional information do let me know.

Checked the dd-wrt.com website the device TD-W8961ND is not supported. Any other ideas?

You are basically going to have to buy another router. Your modem only supports a single IP address so you can not use the trick of using your router as a AP to get wireless.

There are almost no third party images you can load to a dsl router. There is some discussion on the dd-wrt forums of loading a non dsl image into a dsl router but you would have to search on that forum to see if there is any chance at all for your router.
