Graphics Card with DDR3 Memory on DDR2 Motherboard Compatibility

I'm planning on upgrading my Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS graphics card into a MSI GeForce GT 610 graphics card. The new graphics card has 2GB of DDR3 memory compared to the 256MB of DDR2 (or GDDR3 it says also). I understand that DDR3 RAM wouldn't work on a DDR2 motherboard (Asus IPIBL-LB), but since it's video RAM and it's going into the PCI slot wouldn't that be different? And would the upgrade work?

  1. The VRAM on your video card has nothing to do with what's on the motherboard.

No No an Vram type will work on any mobo just make sure that it works on the pci slot like most pci 3 work with most pci 2
When it comes to vram go for the fastest gddr5
It is nothing to do with mobo
