Hey guys. I'm going to be building a new PC for the first time in about 10 years and I was wondering if you could offer me any help or advice.

Basically, I'm going to be primarily using my PC for gaming (mainly BF4 but want the system to be somewhat futureproof too) and I've been looking at what I can get for around £250 that will be a fairly sizeable step up from what I have now.

Here are my current system specs:

Core2 Quad Q9400 2.66Ghz
6Gig DDR2 RAM
Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB
Gigabyte X48-DS4 mobo
Old as hell 250GB HDD.
650w PSU

I'm gonna purchasing new parts over two months and this month I'm going to be getting a cpu, mobo and RAM. For £250 this is what I have come up with:

i5 4440 3.1Ghz
Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H Mobo
8GB DDR3 Kingston HyperX Blu 1600Mhz.

Next month I'll be buying a new gpu, though I haven't decided which yet so any suggestions would be welcome. Budget for gpu would be £100 max I reckon.

I'll be keeping my current case and psu as I'm pretty sure that these will be adequate for the new system.

What do you guys think? Eager to hear your thoughts, opinions and suggestions as I feel somewhat out of the loop with PC hardware these days.

Cheers :)

Ok thanks guys, I'll bear that in mind for sure. Might have to stretch my budget a little further in order to fund the 750Ti. I've never used a Radeon before. Is there much difference in performance between the 750Ti and the 7850?

Sorry guys, one last quick question. Would my GTX 460 1GB be fine running BF4 on the new rig until I can afford the 750Ti next month? On my current rig, I can just about play with some hefty frame rate drops at times. I'd assume that with a better cpu and DDR3 RAM, BF4 would perform better regardless but just thought I'd double check.

I would suggest getting AMD 8350 FX and I will give you my STRONG reason why. Yes, intel is faster, by the time you got your 8350 out of date, all your intel i5 and i7, but the ones costing $1000+ per chip, will also be out of date. The problem with intel is they got pin on the MB not on cpu,, and even little bending of the pins make the motherboard completely useless, they don't even RMA it, read the horror stories over the net, this is the BIG problem with intel, Due to that I have finally decided to switch back to AMD till INTEL get their head together right!!

Only intel chips costing $1k+ are extreme editions that almost nobody buys. A Xeon 1230 v3, is faster than an FX 8350, and can be paired with a far cheaper motherboard, since it isn't a mini space heater. Even overclocked, FX 8350 will not surpass a 1230v3. Don't get me wrong, I own two FX 8320's, I am not anti-amd. I couldn't turn down the Microcenter $99.99 deal on them. I have been using Intel and AMD both over the years. Mostly been using Intel, since core 2, and not one issue with motherboard pins.

I like radeon too, but it is a little old, should not be a problem though.
Reason for why i picked 750 ti is because it has low power consumption. It is also new architechture. If you could get a non-reference 750ti, it would be even better.
Thats just my opinion
