Are they all the same size and what not? those older dells that require ECC Memory are SUPER picky.
And i know this may sound weird but just for shits and giggles. Try installing it in DIMM 6 since it saying 4 is 6?
Yes, Doc. They are all the same. Was going to try your suggestion about DIMM 6 but I'm just a minor geek and wasn't sure it would work. Who knows? Maybe it will? I'll give it a try but will have to do this later tonight or tomorrow as my granddaughter is home in a few...Thanks!
Morning update:
Switched one stick from 4-6 with no change.Got the same messge, but at least the RAM was where setup says it is.
Am about to set it aside until next week and bring it back to the shop. Otherwise, I can just keep playing with the configuration -- even wondering what will happen if I go down to just the 2 GB in Slots 1 and 2, then add from there. I know from past experience, as you stated above about these machines being very picky, that the shop which originally put in the extra 2GB had to do it in different banks to get it to work. Such a shame since these machines aer pretty awesome even though almost 10 years old now. (And I could really #$%& the guy who screwed things up for me last June which is what led to my current situation -- but he left the area after ripping me off on two different machines.)
Second update:
Took out the extra 2 GB. Left the 1GB in slots 1 and 2. On post, it doesn't boot and doesn't give me warning beeps, just keeps on with low clicks and doesn't boot. Now what????
