After searching through ~50 or so threads on overclocking forums, I decided to ask.
How can I overclock in ubuntu 14.04?
First of all, DO NOT REPLY if you have no direct answer unless if its a question.
- My BIOS does not allow overclocking.
-I am running ubuntu 14.04 LTS
-I have WINE
-I am an experienced overclocker, but after switching to ubuntu I gave up windows altogether.

The only thing you can do is get a kernel patch. There are no programs to do it in Ubuntu.

Try this place for a good link. Don't know about the PPA repository. http://sourceforge.net/projects/c2ctl/

Cool! I built my PC (a decent one) for ~$800. It is an FX8350, WD Blue 320GB HDD, Huntkey X7 900W, Raidmax 902WW case, MSI 970A G46 mobo (I am replacing it with an ASUS for OC stability), GTX 460 768MB, Corsair H50. It will play games like tribes ascend at max with no lag, and I do not get any lag from more intense (graphics wise) games like war thunder even maxed out. I am upgrading the cooler to a Swiftech H20 320 Edge HD water cooler with white tubing. I would recommend a cooler like that for serious OC work.

Yeah, I got that hard drive as a patch until I can afford a 1 TB SSD. It was $15, what can I say. I just put all the pictures I take on my laptop.

I was spoiled by the solid state PCI flash storage in my Macbook Pro. Corrupted for life..... that's where the rest of my budget went. That was a big hit on the wallet. I have always been a budget system guy though.

Macbooks have great hardware but I can't stand apple people. So arrogant. Its just a religious consumer war.

I run both, and I just look for the best product. In my opinion, they both have their good and bad.

Haha. :heink:

Take the time to get enough money to shoot high with PC components, make sure you get a good mobo, like an ASUS or AsRock. Get one that will support future needs, so that you don't need to chuck one and buy another (like me). Also get a good PSU like a Seasonic, Corsair or XFX. Better components=Better experience.
