Hi,

I just wanted a quick breakdown of the pros and cons of each of these drives, and which one is better overall please, judging by the prices of £110 for the 250GB Evo and £145 for the 256GB Pro.

I was just getting a little confused as to lifespan and performance/reliability, as every site I look at says something different.

Thanks in advance!

I find that benchmark questionable, the Samsung Pro is faster then the Samsung EVO. The EVO is a very good drive you won't be disappointed if you go with that. The Pro will cost you more the Sequenial numbers are about the same its the random IO where the main difference lies...

Thanks for this! Do you think there'd be much difference in terms of gaming performance (eg loading) or PC boot up times?

Honorable
I personally haven't owned a Samsung PRO SSD; only have experience with a Corsair Neutron GT (I think, it's been a while), Samsung 830, and a 840 EVO.

Personally, I noticed the difference between the Corsair and the 830, and again between the 830 and 840 EVO.

But the differences were minimal, generally, as long as you have a SSD in your system, you're good to go. And I don't think the £35 is justification enough for the PRO, as the EVO is already fast enough.

The Samsung Pro is a MLC drive, and the Samsung EVO is a TLC drive. The MLC drive is superior to TLC like the SLC is superior to the MCL. The MCL is faster, more durable and has a longer life cycle the the TLC. The TLC is less expensive and offers larger capacities. Samsung has incorporated a multi-core controller head to improve the performance and life of the EVO drives. So if you're on a budget and you don't have to have the fastest then the EVO is a good option. If you got the dough and want the best get the Pro.

Either way you'll notice an improvement over a mechanical hard drive. Keep in mind the performance difference isn't a lot so is it worth spending another $45 to $50 for a difference you won't be able to tell without reading a report or graph?

The Pro will cost you more the Sequenial numbers are about the same its the random IO where the main difference lies. 97K/66K for the EVO and 100K/90K for the Pro. Read IO will probably be what is the most important to you and the difference is small just 3K.

Thanks a lot for this, I will probably just go with the EVO seeing as, as you say, it's highly unlikely that I would notice any day-to-day differences between the two; I just wanted to make sure! :)

Thanks a lot to everyone for all your info/advice!!
