Hello. I am having an issue with connecting to the local network and the internet. I am using windows 7 pro 64 bit. All was fine for several years until suddenly I cant connect. IPCONFIG shows an IP address assigned to the computer and the router shows the computer connected to the LAN. None of my programs that need LAN and internet can connect. From the computer in question I can ping others on the LAN and get responses but when I ping from a computer on the LAN that has no issues to the one with the issue I get no response. I did have the "Pureleads" virus around the same time. I use Bit defender to remove the virus and checked again to be sure. I have since removed bit defender as some sites suggested that firewall software could be the problem. So far I cant figure it out and my next choice may be to reinstall windows 7 but id rather not at this point. Anyone got ideas?

That helps. Typically the switch is put before the wireless router, and then the router is configured as an access point, using the switch for the DHCP server. You can achieve an internet connection by simply plugging...

Check that Windows is treating the network as a home network through the network and sharing center, also check to make sure that an antivirus program is installed and working properly, some firewall programs will block all connections if there is an issue with the program to protect the computer. You might also want to reboot the router. Please also give more details about you LAN setup as network issues can be difficult to diagnose without a lot of info.

I have removed the virus protection software but no luck. Im not sure what you want for more network info but let me try to give you more anyways.

The problem computer is connected to an 8 port switch that is connected to a wireless router and then a cable modem. If I click on the network map option on the problem computer, the map shows the whole network to the internet with all the connected computers. From the problem computer I can ping others on the network but others cannot ping it. Is this what you wanted?

That helps. Typically the switch is put before the wireless router, and then the router is configured as an access point, using the switch for the DHCP server. You can achieve an internet connection by simply plugging the router into the switch, but for the wireless devices to consider themselves on the same LAN as the wired devices, you will need to configure the DHCP servers. This configuration will vary depending on the manufacturer of your router and switch. Also check that the devices are configured properly for your ISP's requirements.

Have you tried pinging the switch or the router? Also does your router have a pinging utility that you could use to try and ping the computer that is having the issues? Did you have a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx ip when you typed in ipconfig?

Can you try a different port on the switch? What about plugging straight into the router?
