what is the maximum Internet access speed available ?

hi all
I live in Oman, and the maximum Internet speed (DSL) is 40 mbps we get from our ISP.
what maximum internet access speed do ISPs in US or UK provide nowadays (for home use)?

In the US, if you're lucky enough to live in a google city, 1Gbps. Other places have 300Mbps available. I could get that at my house if I wanted to pay for it.

Some part of US have access to Google Fiber which provides speeds as high as 1000 Mbps, the usual average is around 20 Mbps which applies to the UK as well I believe. The highest average in the world would belong to either S.Korea or Japan.
