How can I check my MOBO's Chipset driver?

I have an Asus M5A99FX R2.0 Pro made before Windows 8.1 was released.
I am getting frame drops in gmes with my 8350, and am wondering if it could be chipset driver errors.

I'm on BIOS 1708, the ones that came iwth the board. Do I need Windows 8.1 Drivers? I don't want to use ASUS software to update them (literally took over my PC with useless processes) , and am scared I'll brick the board or cause newer issues. Not sure how to manually update bioz with a USB in the Bios EZ FLASH tool.

Under my Boards support:

There is no new chipset driver under Windws 8.1 64x. Which am I suppossed to intall? How can I find which my Computer already has? Did Windows 8.1 install one itself, or am I playing without a chipset entirely 0_o I never used the chipset disk that came with my MOBO.

Yes, this is the disc mine came with. I notice there is a newer version, but only one version newer. If I didn't have a chipset, couldn't I tell PC wise? I never ran the disk, so I don't know if Windows 8.1 did it automatically or?

Windows definatetly won't do it for you, the reason being that it can sometimes be dangerous because if the update process gets interrupted then your computer can become bricked (won't work against. Without sending it to the factory). Your PC generally won't tell you what your chip set is without doing some digging first. The easiest way to find it is to go into command prompt and type "sysinfo".

I inserted my chipset disc (its still only 1 version old, didn't want to download the newest chipset). I was only missing the LAN, 3.0 usb, and Realtek sound driver (which I promptly uninstalled, sounds worse than Windows sound driver). I thought the chipset could be the culprit of my 8350/290 having inconsistent framerate ,but everything is intalled, graphics drivers are clean and up to date, yet, the problem remains. Is the 8350 just not good or... No way it could bottleneck a 290 THAT hard.

What do you mean by 290? Are you talking about your CPU because if so it would be nice to know the clock speed.

I have an 8350 with default MOBO settings (clocks itself to 4133mhz in gaming, all 8 cores stay there too) and a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X stock OC'd to 1000/1300. Honestly, I think MY GPU is handling itself, and that my 8350 may be the culprit. I get about 53fps average in Unigine Valley Extreme HD benchmark. Seems like it performs effectively. It's clocks occasionally drop 50mhz or so when the card isn't being pushed or the graphics are set lower, but other than that, at Ultra settings in games, It stays 998-1000. Vram solid at 1300 all the time. CPU never goes abopve 51C, GPU never above 73C (great for a 290). I can't find a problem, but I expect more out of this combination.

It's probably due to the fact that your motherboard only has PCIe 2.0, and your GPU needs 3.0 to work at maximum performance.

Ehh, that doesn't sound right. In fact, it probably has greater support for 2.0, as its more common. As far as I know, only one AMD mobo even has 3.0, and its a $225 mobo 0_o

I tried unpoarking my 8350, which didn'y work, and I honestly don't think thats the problem either. I'm out of options, and out of info? what else could cause me to drop to 40-60fps in Crysis 2 in action, just after being at 120fps before the action? My CPU is at a solid 60% usage, and all 8 cores clock to 4.2ghz... never dip, and GPU core hovers 991-1000...
